Important Information

  • Government funds are limited. Demand for the program is expected to exceed available rebates.
  • Your vehicle must be less than 25 years old on the trade-in date
  • Only purchase or lease of new vehicles qualify
  • Generally, trade-in vehicles must get 18 or less MPG (some very large pick-up trucks and cargo vans have different requirements)
  • Trade-in vehicles must be registered and insured continuously for the full year preceding the trade-in
  • You don't need a voucher, dealers will apply a credit at purchase
  • Program runs through Nov 1, 2009 or when the funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.
  • The vehicle that you are trading in is required to be destroyed. Therefore, the value you negotiate with the dealer for your trade in is not likely to exceed its scrap value. The law requires the dealer to disclose to you and estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in vehicle.

How Does it Work?

The US government is offering vouchers of $3,500 or $4,500 for qualified used vehicles. These vouchers can be applied to the purchase of more fuel efficient new vehicles. If your trade in vehicle and new vehicle qualify $3,500 or $4,500 will be taken off the purchase of your new vehicle.



When Does it Run?

The program starts on July 1st. Program details will be finalized on July 24th and the program will last until the end of October. Government funds are limited and demand for the program is expected to outlast supply.

Does My Vehicle Qualify?

Your trade-in vehicle must

  • have been manufactured less than 25 years before the date you trade it in
  • have a "new" combined city/highway fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon or less
  • be in drivable condition
  • be continuously registered and insured (NH residents do not need insurance) for the full year preceding the trade-in

Does the New Vehicle I want Qualify?

Part of that depends on what you are trading in. In general, the new vehicle must
  • get better gas mileage than your old vehicle
  • meet the minimum mpg standards for its category
  • have an MSRP under $45,000

Where Do I get my Voucher?

No voucher is needed. Simply bring the required paperwork into our dealership. When the government finalizes the process, we will verify that your vehicle qualifies. We will then take $3,500 to $4,500 off the purchase price of the vehicle and redeem the voucher from the government.
